Article by Brian Garvin & Jeff West

The Sturgis motorcycle rally is a must-see for any motorcycle enthusiast. Many people spend most of their lives dreaming about attending Sturgis on their own motorcycle. Many enthusiasts join the fun every year. It is an experience no one ever forgets, whether they attend regularly, or just once.

But when you go to Sturgis, you want to look like you belong there. People who do not live the motorcycle lifestyle every day wonder how to not look like a tourist, and people who do live the lifestyle, or are just joining it, are on the lookout for the best motorcycle leather gear to be in.

There are a ton of styles on the market, and which you choose is really up to personal preference. You can get varying materials in your gear, but for motorcyclists, leather is the material of choice. Leather is durable, so if you take care of it, it will last a long time. Leather is also one of the best things to be wearing if (heaven forbid) you do get in an accident. The ground will tear up the leather, not you. On top of these practical things, motorcycle leather gear just looks awesome. There is a reason it has become a style all of its own.

When looking for motorcycle leather gear, make sure you get real leather. It may sound silly, but there are a ton of leather imitators out there that manage to make a lot of sales because the mimic the real leather styles, but offer them for much cheaper. Don”t get sucked in by the price. Most of the time the material will show signs of wear very quickly, and the garment will begin to fall apart before you get your money”s worth out of it. Leather is very much worth the price you will pay for it.

In styles of leathers, you can get jackets, one-piece riding outfits, two-piece outfits, gloves, chaps, you name it. All come in the standard leather shades of black and brown, and if you”re looking for something really outlandish, you can even find women”s motorcycle leather gear dyed in bright colors. Another great thing about real leather equipment is that much of it is not mass-produced. This makes it easier to find something to fit a particularly tall, large, or petite person.

While you”re looking for the basics, such as jackets and boots, don”t forget that there is a wide variety of accessories to go with your motorcycle leather gear. There are headcovers that can be worn on their own, or under a helmet. There are leather bandanas and ponytail holders too.

Above all, when buying, make sure you get gear that is comfortable, and you like the look. If you buy quality apparel and accessories, you will have them for years to come, so you definitely want something you”re going to enjoy. Whatever it is you”re looking for, you are sure to find it. Look around carefully, and before you know it, you”ll have your gear and will be ready to hit the road. Whether you”re going to Sturgis, or somewhere else, you”ll know you”re equipped for the occasion.
